    Rsgar Aziz, Mask Maker

Born in Kurdistan, Rsgar visited Venice in the mid 90s and fell in love with the city, its traditions and, most of all, with its Carnival. Since then, Rsgar who is originally a calligrapher, decided to craft his own masks and decorate them with his personal and remarkable touch.

Rzgar creates and decorates his masks entirely by hand, in the respect of the ancient Venetian techniques: the casting of an initial mold, the making of the shape with the use of papier-mache and wallpaper glue, the coloring and the decoration by hand. His elegant touch, the choice of typically Venetian colors and the fine use of a final layer of gloss,  imprint a strong and authentic identity to his original creations.

Since he first started his workshop, Rzgar immediately had a clear idea of the final product he wanted to offer to his customers. As a consequence, he has chosen to be always working alone because, as he says, only the person who conceived the original idea can craft that ideal of beauty into reality, providing a high quality, unique and authentic production.

I want to do everything by myself because no one but me, not another artisan nor an artist, can see and therefore produce exactly what i am imagining for my clients.

I'm visiting Venice. Why should I follow your recommendations?

The way you visit Venice has an impact both on the quality of your experience and on Venice itself.  Chilling, exploring, shopping, eating and drinking where the locals do, can make a huge impact both on the memories you bring home and on the local economy and community.
