    Campo de l’Abazia

    This beautiful campo, or square, is off the beaten path on the northern area of the district of Cannaregio.

    On this campo, in 936 C.E., the Confraternity of Misericordia founded its church and its first “scuola” or school. In the XIII century, however, the confraternity had grown so rich and numerous that they had to build a new school, the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, which became, and still is, one of the biggest building in Venice.

    The Scuola Grande della Misericordia has recently been renovated and can be visited for free.

    Palazzo Mocenigo Museum

    Palazzo Mocenigo has been home to the San Stae branch of the influencial and powerful Mocenigo family, one of the most influencial families in Venice, 7 members of which became Doges between 1414 and 1778. A large building of gothic origins, the Palazzo Mocenigo was rebuilt and drastically changed in the XVII Century, giving it its current aspect.

    Ca’ Pesaro Museum

    Built in the second half of the seventeenth century for the Pesaro family by the Baldassarre Longhena, the greatest Venetian baroque architect, Ca’ Pesaro houses the National Museum of Modern Art. Started being built in 1659 , it was finished decades after Longhena’s death in 1710 by Gian Antonio Gaspari.

    Ca’ Rezzonico

    The majestic Ca’Rezzonico palace, which construction took over 100 years, is now the Museum of the ‘700 of Venice, the richest century of the Serenissima. Designed in 1649 by Baldassare Longhena, the greatest Baroque architect of the city, for the aristocratic Bon family, Ca’ Rezzonico was finished only in in 1756 (106 years later!) by Giorgio Massari for the new owners: the Rezzonico family.
