In order to discover the authentic Venice, the first step is to understand the nature of the Venetians
These picture by Robert Schonfeld, a great Venice lover and a yearly visitor, are a way to understand and discover Venice by discovering and understanding those who live here.
Every aspect of the city changes and gains a deeper meaning, once we observe real life and the bond that the Venetians have with their hometown. The main streets become the places where old friends meet for a walk together like “in the good ol’ times” and a “fondamenta” suddenly turns into the daily romantic walk of an elder couple that still desires to hold hands. While Vaporetti are represented as means of transportation for the inhabitants rather than sightseeing tours for the masses, public wells have lost their purpose of collecting water for the population, but work as steps on which a woman can sit on and hug her granddaughter.
These photos do not aim at showing you Venice as landmarks and magnificent buildings but at showing you, instead, the often overlooked love and intimacy between the city and those who live here.
I'm visiting Venice. Why should I follow your recommendations?
The way you visit Venice has an impact both on the quality of your experience and on Venice itself. Chilling, exploring, shopping, eating and drinking where the locals do, can make a huge impact both on the memories you bring home and on the local economy and community.
