A mysterious object from the past, to design and protect your home
Just like his grandfather and his mother before him, Stefano is the keeper of the making of a mysterious object from the past, portraited by artists and beloved bankers, which is also a traditional house talisman since over 600 years: the “witch’s eye” mirror, or “Sorcière”.
The “Sorcière” is a diverging mirror, or bulls-eye mirror, which was used by bankers to keep an eye on the blind spots they couldn’t see otherwise and it was also a favorite object of great artists as they could prove their talents in representing the challenging distortions caused by the mirrors.
Every mirror at Canestrelli’s is a unique piece, which Stefano designs and creates entirely by hand in his workshop, carving and decorating the frames with the traditional “guazzo” gilding technique developed in the XIV Century, and finally silvering entirely by hand the convex mirror.
Canestrelli turns a magic object from the past, represented by artists such as Jan van Eyck, Bellini and Caravaggio, into a unique piece of design for your home… talisman properties included!
